Just Me

A period of reflection and contemplation in 2011 marked a pivotal moment in Steyn’s practice, initiating a new artistic direction. This year-long sabbatical planted the seed for a more dynamic visual language and an ongoing search for meaning. Along this journey, Steyn developed an inventive approach to translating the depth and significance of memories, events, and emotions drawn from a life lived.

Just Me is a subsequent survey of this 15-year period, drawing together early and current work in a thoughtful and considered presentation. The exhibition arranges and entwines the transient nature of recollection with emerging ideas, as Steyn applies and manipulates traditional printmaking techniques with clear intent. Through this process, past and present converge – layered, reworked, and reimagined.

Both deeply personal and technically accomplished, Just Me offers an intimate insight into Steyn’s evolving practice, capturing a dynamic dialogue between memory, material, and self.
