Busselton Cultural Precinct Education Program

Creative & Cultural Educational Experiences

Take your class on a fun-filled educational journey of discovery in the Busselton Cultural Precinct and beyond.

Upon opening, Saltwater Busselton will offer curriculum linked educational tours and performing arts experiences for primary and secondary students.

Located across the road from Saltwater, the heritage-listed Old Courthouse Complex offers a range of tours encompassing the Courtrooms, Bond Store, Old Gaol, Police Station and Stables. Our guide will escort your group throughout the complex, telling true stories and engaging your students in discussion for future classroom discussion.

All education tours are suitable for school groups ranging from year 3 to 8 and are curriculum linked to HASS, STEM and Cross Curricular learning. Students will uncover local history about with the hardship of first settlement and its impact on the traditional custodians, as well as the introduction of law and order to the settlement, logistics of importing goods, the collection of taxes and excise, shipwrecks and rescue.

Delve into history in our role play extension program, as your students re-enact the initial inquiry to the tragic S.S. Georgette shipwreck. Dressed in period costume, students will roleplay parts of accused, witness, experts and jury. They will hear evidence, make a verdict and learn the outcome of the inquiry that took place at the Old Courthouse Complex in 1876.

The Icons of Busselton walking tour is included in this educational experience. Using a wayfinding map and information brochure, you will move from the Old Courthouse Complex to the Busselton Foreshore Precinct. Learn about local flora, bush tucker and the First Nations Wadandi (Saltwater) People. Explore the pioneer cemetery and visit the Ballaarat Steam Engine.
